craniosacral therapy

Nature is full of fluid movement and rhythm. Take a walk along the shore and observe the ebb and flow of the tide. The swamp pulses on a spring evening with the sound of peepers. Even the wind in the trees evokes a sense of motion. Our bodies, too, pulse with blood, water, air. Our hearts beat, our lungs breathe, and there is a continual exchange of fluids on a cellular level that happens without our conscious effort. All of these movements reflect the unfolding of a vital life force that continually expresses itself, whether or not we consciously participate. Yogis refer to this as "prana", meaning "constant movement", and understand it as the primary motion of Life Energy. Traditional Chinese culture calls it "Qi", and Cranial Osteopathy refers to it as "Primary Respiration". In all traditions, this force is recognized as having a natural, self-corrective intelligence.

A derivative of Cranial Osteopathy, Craniosacral Therapy recognizes the interconnected pull of this life force on the fluids, membranous tissues, and bones of the body. Using extraordinarily gentle touch, I support this motion through contact points on the skull, sacrum, and along the spine, assisting the body in releasing restrictions and returning to a balanced flow. You will feel a sense of relaxation and general wellness. Craniosacral Therapy is particularly helpful for tension headaches, head injuries, fatigue, trauma, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), temporomandibular joint dysfunction, anxiety, and for enhancing the effectiveness of other therapies.
